Leonardo DiCaprio, just won an Oscar for ‘The Revenant’, but he has been entertaining us with some stupendous performances for the last 25 years. Here are the 10 best performances of his career.
10. Catch Me If You Can
Another Martin Scorsese movie, and the movie went on to bag the Best Picture and Best Director awards in the Oscars. A tragedy and a thriller, which depicts the irony of life and crime. Again, in spite of being surrounded by great actors, he stands out.
10. Catch Me If You Can
Directed by Steven Spielberg this biographical crime drama movie is a relish. This movie utilizes DiCaprio’s boyish looks, his charms and his ever-confident attitude in an impeccable manner.
9. The Departed
8. Titanic
A film that saw Leonardo DiCaprio in a romantic avatar and gave him unmatched fame. Though, after this, he purposefully avoided to star in any big-budgeted romantic dramas (till ‘The Great Gatsby’ happened).
7. Revolutionary Road
Reunited with Titanic (1997) co-star Kate Winslet, the pair do some of the best work of their careers as a young couple in suburbia fifties, trying to make a life for themselves. DiCaprio is excellent as Frank, married but with a wandering eye, content in a world his wife finds miserable.
6. What’s Eating Gilbert Grape
His performance mentally challenged Arnie was a revelation and so remarkable, few believed it was a normal actor in the part. The work made clear the young actor was the real deal, and not only that but an actor of astounding talent. This should have been his first Academy Award. He was nominated for Best Supporting Actor.
5. Django Unchained
In a rare supporting turn, DiCaprio is ferociously evil as Calvin Candie, a vicious plantation owner who uses his black slaves for sport, for wrestling to the death. When he discovers he is being scammed by two men claiming to be looking for a fighter, he turns ugly and cruel. It was a surprise to see the actor in such a role but he was outstanding.4. Blood Diamond
A war thriller, set in Africa, shows Leo portrayed as a smuggler with a good heart. If you ask me, Leonardo deserved much more for this film. Final scenes in the movie will make you teary-eyed, and if you haven’t watched this movie yet, now’s a good time.
3. The Aviator
his biographical drama, was nominated for 11 Oscar awards, winning 5 in the due course, including Best Director for Martin Scorsese. There could be a debate on what the order of his 10 best performances should be, but this is unarguably one of Leo’s best three performances to date.
Enough cannot be said about this Oscar winning performance of DiCaprio, who for long periods of time in the film says nothing, throwing himself into the performance with an unmatched intensity.
1. The Wolf of Wall Street
When Martin Scorsese directs a movie starring DiCaprio in a satirical all-out comedy, what more can you expect ! This biographical satirical comedy is the apt display of the acting range that Leo has. Truly, one of the greatest performances of this century.
